For generations of Indianapolis men and women, the words “Indiana Roof” evoke memories of rustling prom dress, swinging dance bands and romantic waltzes under twinkling Spanish skies.
Dancers left reality behind when they climbed the stairs to the ballroom atop the Indiana Theatre in the 1930s. As wispy clouds drifted across the domed ceiling, they could forget about the Depression and the faltering businesses on the streets below.
Teenagers swooned over singing star Julius LaRosa in concert and danced the night away at their senior proms in the ‘50s.
In keeping with the Roof’s original purpose, we have kept the tradition of big bands and dancing alive by featuring several events a year:
All dances are on scheduled Sundays, from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (Doors open at 4:00 p.m.) Tickets $14.00 each. Group discounts are available on the promenade when 10 or more tickets are purchased in advance. A cash bar will be provided. NO outside food or beverages allowed. Attire is Business to Formal. Table number reserves seating, so advance ticket purchases are recommended.
